Topiary : The Bigger Plant Company
Date: 27th March, 2008
Location: Liverpool South Parkway
Life-size topiary figures of Liverpool's most famous band took centre stage at Liverpool South Parkway as part of Merseytravel's commitment to the European Capital of Culture 2008.
The topiary Beatles were grown in Tuscany, Italy, and cultivated on the Wirral by Melos based horticultural company, The Bigger Plant Company. The plants themselves were about ten years old at the time of the commission. They were placed in a metal skeleton, and it was then commissioned artist Franco Covili's job to weave the branches into shape to form the topiary of the most famous band in the world.
The topiary is one of a series of public art commissions for the interchnage which is a key link from Merseyside's public transport network to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
